2013 - A Year to Remember
2012 went by a lot faster than I thought it would. But my motto of this year is "Yesterday is over. Don't spend today worrying about tomorrow." My number one goal for this year is to begin Brantley's journey to become the horse I know he can be and help everyone I can on our journey. Best news of the day: I CAN START RIDING PRETTY AGAIN! Started a new job last week (vet tech at a LOCAL animal hospital). My first 40-hour week starts this week... 8-4pm which means I have a ton of pony time in my future and weekends off for a while. That means more time for not just Mr. B but for Chevy and a few other ponies!
Right before the new year I had a vet come out and basically do a full pre-purchase exam on Brantley and really focus on his back. At the end of everything, she couldn't find any reason that she would've told me not to buy him. He was still a little sore even though he had some time off but she thinks it's a tenseness issue as well as putting down weather as a factor. It was a $215.00 well spent for me to be able to tell people, "No... He's fine... He's just a baby." We had a really nice conversation about horses and the psychology of training and no matter how "broke" a 6-year old could and could not be... They're still babies. There are a lot of trainers out there that don't recommend starting horses until they're about 5. This also adds to the physical build of the horse. A lot of thoroughbreds are started a little over a year! Their brains can't completely handle all the responsibility given to them...
That's why it's BACK TO PONY BASICS!
And this time, I'm not alone.
I have friends who are not only good friends but are striving for the same thing as Brantley and I AND are fellow bloggers. Not that I have a ton of followers... And most of my followers right now are these people but check 'em out!
